Abbreviation

ISA = Industry Standard Architecture

Description

ISA is a standard bus (computer interconnection) architecture. ISA was originally 8-bit and had only one section. But for this page we are only talking about the newer 16-bit ISA. Which is still old and currently being phased out by PCI.

Purpose

To physically connect computer motherboard to ISA card. Carries electronic signal between motherboard and ISA card. Adding an ISA card will add new hardware to your computer not originally supplied on the motherboard.
